Ever since I was a little girl I was intrigued by one thing and one thing only. They belonged in dreams, in the heavens themselves. They were fantasy creatures, living in reality. They were amazing. Peguses, Unicorns in hiding. They were horses. From a young age, ever since I could talk, the first word I uttered was pony. And from when my speech was developed I spent that time begging for riding lessons.
Finally it happened, I met my first horse at the local riding stable. A shaggy shetland pony named Rizeela. Although if I look back, Rizeela was probably the ugliest horse I had ever met, with faulty conformation. But back then, she was the most amazing horse ever. I told all of my friends that I rode a unicorn. Rizeela was my pride and joy for years, but just a lesson pony not my own. I was soon in need of a horse of my own, something I could actually have at my house.
It didn't happen till years after, but finally I had a majestic black arabian, Farley. Farley was only six, headstrong and too much for me to handle at the time. But I persevered. He was my horse and I was NOT going to sell him. Ever. So it turned out that he begun to grow used to me, he begun to behave better. And I became a better rider. A few years later, we won top five at Regionals.
Many ribbons followed that. Many moments, many memories. Some funny, some terribly sad, we shared them all. He was my horse and stayed at my side forever. Now here I am, living on my own, out of college, watching Farley from my bedroom window as he grazed in his grassy field in the sunlight. It has been many years since Midnight, since I received Farley. Now my old man resides in a field to live out the rest of his days... This is the life of a horseback rider.
